Montauk Point, NY, USA

My partner X and I go to Montauk every year for our anniversary. It's way out at the eastern end of Long Island. This year it was just above freezing for our traditional walk on the beach, very sunny and windy with gulls beating their wings against the gusts. Even though it's not technically winter yet, I'm tagging this post "winter" because it sure felt wintry out there! But we love being here in the off-season and having the beach all to ourselves.

We usually do a 500-piece jigsaw puzzle together while we're here. (We live with a toddler and three cats, so it's hard to do puzzles at home.) I took this photo at ultra-high-res and am going to turn it into a jigsaw puzzle for us to do next year.

That's a beautiful photo and will make a beautiful jigsaw puzzle. Cold early-winter beaches are lovely in an austere way.

I grew up on Long Island. I didn't go to Montauk all that much (Jones Beach was a lot closer), but out there at the end of the island where the winds have a chance to build up speed, weather can get one's attention very fast.

A souvenir puzzle sounds like it could become a beautiful tradition.

Every year you write about this lovely trip and now I have a better than ever idea of what it's like when you go.

That puzzle will be wonderful!
