Today is cold and bright, cold enough so that a lump of ice with leaves in it that I propped up against the porch is still not melting and unlikely to melt at all. Time to be multilayered at all times!
The oak trees around here are the last to lose their leaves: this one still has most of its leaves. In the crook of the branches you can see an orange blotch--that's a pumpkin gourd (little mini-pumpkin-looking things you can see in supermarkets around here prior to Halloween). A squirrel stole it from my porch and put it up there for safekeeping and future snacking! (The picture is hosted at Flickr, so you can click through to see it at a larger size)
