It's the first day of December. The sky is thoroughly overcast, and there's a cold gusty wind - the temperature is 37° F/2.8° C. It's going to start raining here very soon, but the rain will be mixed with freezing rain, sleet, and snow, and the temperatures are going to keep going down. The prediction is for all that wintry precipitation to continue and turn back into light rain, but then become more frozen and hazardous through all of Sunday and Monday and into Tuesday morning. Weather that I would normally have expected for early December. I hear the trucks going by on the main road, spraying ice-preventing "brine" on the pavement. It's easier to get into the mood for the winter holidays when the weather is wintry.

The day started out mild, with a temperature of 57° F. around 10 or 11 AM. A massive cold front swept across the whole region, causing rain and dropping the temperatures. The rain started to include a few snowflakes before it stopped in the early afternoon, and the temperature was already down around freezing. The wind also got stronger (gusts up to 30 mph). Now, at 8 PM, the temperature is 28° F, with wind gusts up to 10 mph, producing a wind chill of 19° F. When I got done with my errands for the day, I walked into the house and discovered that the indoor temperature was only 69° F, which I wouldn't mind if it were hot outdoors. But it's a tadge chilly, so I had to turn up the thermostats, and now it's up to 73° F.
But this house is somewhat drafty, and I'm sort of freezing my arse off.

Here at Sandy Hook, NJ, the entrance to New York Harbor (and within sight of the skyline of Manhattan), the temperature never got much above freezing (32° F), on Thursday with gusty northwest winds. I'm so happy the weather is finally getting cooler! I can't stand hot weather; it makes me sick. But last night I was able to put a second blanket on the bed to keep warm (and to add weight - I think I'm going to ask for a weighted blanket for my wintergift). Earlier this week there had been predictions of light snow for Thursday, but it didn't happen here. The ten-day forecast mainly indicates a continuation of cooler weather, with some rain but no snow. I may put on a pair of socks when I go to bed.
