Here at Sandy Hook, NJ, the entrance to New York Harbor (and within sight of the skyline of Manhattan), the temperature never got much above freezing (32° F), on Thursday with gusty northwest winds. I'm so happy the weather is finally getting cooler! I can't stand hot weather; it makes me sick. But last night I was able to put a second blanket on the bed to keep warm (and to add weight - I think I'm going to ask for a weighted blanket for my wintergift). Earlier this week there had been predictions of light snow for Thursday, but it didn't happen here. The ten-day forecast mainly indicates a continuation of cooler weather, with some rain but no snow. I may put on a pair of socks when I go to bed.

The weather has been fluctuating between the 50s and the 30s, bright sunshine and drenching downpours. Welcome to New England.

Halloween trick-or-treating was expected to be interrupted by a nor'easter, but it was so warm and pleasant that the teen didn't need to wear a coat over his costume when he went out with the much younger next-door neighbors. The nor'easter held off till later, and even had the courtesy to be done when it was time to leave the house in the morning. Plenty of downpours later on, though.

The teenager has a fleece jacket and a lightweight hooded jacket that zip together into a winter coat, and he did that this week.

The pre-teen lost her similar coat, so yesterday after her dentist appointment we got her a coat and extremely cute ankle boots at Costco at appropriate discount. Then when we left, the wind gusts nearly took the boot box sailing off of the top of the groceries.

My tires DEFINITELY need replacement before the roads get icy; going through deep puddles has been hair-raising already.

But, the weather finally matches the lack of daylight, I suppose...

Rainy and overcast and breezy this Saturday morning. Sticking my head outside tells me it's what passes for cool in south Florida. Last night it poured while I was in a Thai restaurant. There's something so cozy about rain at night when you're inside and being well fed.

It's been a rough few weeks, and this is good weather for drinking tea and watching Doctor Who.

Another crisp cold day here, in the 40s Fahrenheit. I wore my proper parka, the one rated to something like -35F, and wished I had my heavier gloves to go with it. Every spring I gather all our winter gear into a big bag and shove it into my closet, and now it's time to haul it out and go through it.

Afternoon sun slants through the golden yellow foliage of a tree behind a black iron fence

The Brooklyn Museum and Brooklyn Botanic Garden are right next to each other, and BBG was clearly consulted on the plantings around the museum, because they're all beautiful. This gorgeous tree is on Washington Avenue, behind the museum, and you can see the Botanic Garden entrance behind it. From the shape of the leaves, I think it's a maple, but I've never seen a maple that color. I made J walk half a block out of our way so I could take a picture of it glowing in the late afternoon sun. I increased the brightness just a bit, so it's slightly overexposed but you can really get a sense of the color.
